Ingredients

  • 1 pound flank steak, thinly sliced across the grain
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons oyster sauce
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 3 tablespoons vegetable oil, divided
  • 1/4 cup beef broth
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 4 cups broccoli florets
  • 1 tablespoon minced garlic
  • 1 tablespoon minced fresh ginger
  • 2 green onions, sliced
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Steamed rice, for serving (optional)

Instructions

  1. Start by marinating the beef. In a bowl, combine the sliced flank steak, 2 tablespoons soy sauce, 1 tablespoon of the cornstarch, and 1 tablespoon of the vegetable oil. Mix well and set aside for at least 10 minutes. This helps to tenderize the beef and infuse it with flavor.
  2. In a small bowl, mix together the oyster sauce, remaining 1 tablespoon cornstarch, beef broth, and brown sugar. This will be the sauce; set it aside.
  3. Heat a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil. Once hot, add the marinated beef. Stir-fry for about 4-5 minutes, until the beef is browned and cooked through. Remove the beef from the skillet and set it aside.
  4. In the same skillet, add the remaining 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil. Add the minced garlic and ginger and stir-fry for 30 seconds until fragrant. Be careful not to burn the garlic.
  5. Add the broccoli florets to the skillet. Stir-fry for 3-4 minutes, until bright green and just tender. If needed, add a splash of water to help steam the broccoli and speed up the cooking process.
  6. Return the beef to the skillet along with the sauce mixture. Stir everything together and let it cook for 2-3 minutes, until the sauce thickens and coats the beef and broccoli nicely.
  7. Add the sliced green onions and stir them in, cooking for an additional 1 minute. Adjust the seasoning with salt and pepper to taste.
  8. Serve the beef and broccoli stir-fry over steamed rice if desired. Enjoy your meal!
