Ingredients
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 14 ounces kielbasa sausage, sliced into 1/4 inch rounds
- 1 medium onion, thinly sliced
- 1 small head cabbage, cored and sliced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
- 1 teaspoon caraway seeds (optional)
- 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
- 1/4 cup chicken broth
Instructions
- Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Once the oil is hot, add the sliced kielbasa sausage and brown on both sides, about 5 minutes. Remove the sausage from the skillet and set it aside on a plate.
- In the same skillet, add the sliced onion and cook until softened, about 3 minutes. Stir frequently to avoid burning.
- Add the sliced cabbage to the skillet, stirring occasionally, until it begins to soften, about 5-7 minutes. Use the wooden spoon to help stir and scrape up any browned bits from the bottom, which will add extra flavor.
- Stir in the minced garlic, salt, black pepper, and caraway seeds (if using). Cook for another 1 minute to let the flavors combine.
- Return the browned kielbasa to the skillet. Pour in the apple cider vinegar and chicken broth, stirring well to combine all ingredients. Lower the heat to medium-low and cover the skillet.
- Let the mixture simmer, covered, for about 5-7 minutes, or until the cabbage is tender to your liking. Taste and adjust seasoning if necessary.
- Remove the skillet from the heat. Serve the dish warm with a sprinkle of freshly ground black pepper and enjoy!
