Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 2 teaspoons fresh parsley, chopped (optional for garnish)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, mix together the ground beef, breadcrumbs, milk, egg, Worcestershire sauce, onion powder, garlic powder, salt, and pepper until well combined.
  2. Roll the mixture into 1.5-inch meatballs. Aim for uniform sizes to ensure even cooking.
  3. Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the meatballs in a single layer. Cook, turning occasionally, until all sides are browned, about 8-10 minutes. Remove the meatballs and set aside.
  4. In the same skillet, add the sliced onions. Cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until they begin to soften, about 5 minutes.
  5. In a small bowl, whisk together the beef broth, flour, ketchup, Dijon mustard, and soy sauce until smooth. Pour the mixture over the onions in the skillet.
  6. Return the meatballs to the skillet. Bring the mixture to a simmer, then reduce the heat to low, cover, and cook for an additional 10 minutes, or until the meatballs are cooked through.
  7. Finish by adding the butter to the skillet, stirring to melt and combine into the sauce.
  8. Serve the meatballs hot, garnished with fresh parsley if desired. Pair with mashed potatoes or buttered noodles for a complete meal.
