Ingredients

  • 2 cups elbow macaroni
  • 4 cups whole milk
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese

Instructions

  1. Place the large pot on the stove over medium heat.
  2. Add 2 cups of elbow macaroni and 4 cups of whole milk to the pot.
  3. Stir occasionally with the wooden spoon to prevent the pasta from sticking together. Do this gently to avoid spilling milk.
  4. Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer. Keep the heat on medium to prevent the milk from boiling over.
  5. Once simmering, cook the macaroni for about 10 minutes until it is al dente. Stir frequently to ensure even cooking.
  6. Once the pasta is cooked, reduce the heat to low.
  7. Add 2 cups of shredded cheddar cheese, 1 tablespoon of butter, 1 teaspoon of salt, and 1/2 teaspoon of ground black pepper.
  8. Stir continuously until the cheese and butter are melted, and the sauce is smooth and creamy. If the sauce is too thick, add a splash more milk to reach the desired consistency.
  9. Turn off the heat and stir in 1/2 cup of grated Parmesan cheese for additional flavor.
  10. Serve the mac and cheese hot. For a crusty top, consider transferring to an ovenproof dish, sprinkle more Parmesan cheese, and broil for a couple of minutes until golden brown.
