Ingredients
- 2 cups elbow macaroni
- 4 cups whole milk
- 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
Instructions
- Place the large pot on the stove over medium heat.
- Add 2 cups of elbow macaroni and 4 cups of whole milk to the pot.
- Stir occasionally with the wooden spoon to prevent the pasta from sticking together. Do this gently to avoid spilling milk.
- Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer. Keep the heat on medium to prevent the milk from boiling over.
- Once simmering, cook the macaroni for about 10 minutes until it is al dente. Stir frequently to ensure even cooking.
- Once the pasta is cooked, reduce the heat to low.
- Add 2 cups of shredded cheddar cheese, 1 tablespoon of butter, 1 teaspoon of salt, and 1/2 teaspoon of ground black pepper.
- Stir continuously until the cheese and butter are melted, and the sauce is smooth and creamy. If the sauce is too thick, add a splash more milk to reach the desired consistency.
- Turn off the heat and stir in 1/2 cup of grated Parmesan cheese for additional flavor.
- Serve the mac and cheese hot. For a crusty top, consider transferring to an ovenproof dish, sprinkle more Parmesan cheese, and broil for a couple of minutes until golden brown.
